Development roadmap

Build what can be supported well.

FLDI's vision is broad, but its development order is intentionally staged. Planned work becomes active only when the organization has the leadership, accessibility, safeguards, funding, and accountability to deliver it responsibly.

NOW

Establish the organization

Complete the startup structure behind FLDI before presenting a large menu of services as active.

  • Finalize initial board participation and formal governance roles.
  • Adopt bylaws and core conflict-of-interest and operating policies.
  • Complete preparation of the federal 501(c)(3) application and submit when ready.
  • Finalize the first-year operating plan, budget, funding case, accessible infrastructure, and financial controls.
  • Confirm the scope, safeguards, outcome measures, and accountable delivery leadership for the first adult-life pilot.
  • Begin building a founding network of volunteers, advisors, contributors, mentors, and potential future board candidates.
NEXT

Launch the first connected programs

The first build centers on a practical adult-life pathway rather than opening every planned program at once.

  • Accessible intake and adult-life resource hub.
  • Mentor preparation, matching, boundaries, and check-ins.
  • Relationships and independence resources.
  • One supporting learning module for the initial pilot.
  • Consent-led sample profiles and storytelling workflows.
  • A modest, moderated peer/community space.
THEN

Expand opportunity in deliberate waves

Additional pathways follow demonstrated need, staffing, funding, and evaluation.

  • Career readiness and the Disability Talent Network.
  • Expanded partner/caregiver support communities.
  • Professional education and scholarships when procedures and funding are ready.
  • FLDI Magazine & Directory infrastructure and publication.
  • Broader community, leadership, accessible recreation, and storytelling work.
  • Focused advocacy and systems-change work grounded in recurring barriers.
LONG TERM

Build a durable national organization

Long-term concepts require their own feasibility work and are not current operating programs.

  • Sustainable funding, evaluated programs, national partnerships, and leadership capacity.
  • Broader cross-disability communities while preserving condition-specific expertise.
  • Research and evidence-building only with appropriate permissions and qualified leadership.
  • Possible accessible living-environment concepts after dedicated feasibility study.

Progression rule

Planned does not mean launched.

FLDI will move a program into active delivery only when there is demonstrated need, an accountable delivery lead, an accessible and safe design, a bounded budget and funding source, required reviews, and an outcome measure.

What moves the roadmap forward

People, expertise, and funding all matter.

Near-term progress depends on completing governance and financial systems, defining the first pilot, and assembling the people who can deliver it well. Future support can help pay for accessible infrastructure, program development, training, participant resources, storytelling systems, evaluation, and the coordination required to make those pieces work together.
